This is my Journal. It shares our life here in South Africa – 9,000 miles from home.

Our House

Our house here is an amazingly lucky find. Our landlord needed someone to live in his house, we needed a place to live. He had stored all his furniture and accessories in the garage and wanted to get them out of storage. We arrived with no household items ourselves. He is letting us live with all his personal furniture, design sense, decor, kitchenware, plants, etc.

Our house

Elgin Open Gardens is a 2 weekend affair with 9 gardens to explore. It is a charity event and the owners open private gardens to the public for the benefit of whichever charity each supports. Each garden is so unique – some quite formal and one a hillside being planted with natural plants and flowers for their preservation. Very beautiful and informative and we certainly enjoyed all of them.

To leave Cape Town there are 2 major highways (the N1 and N2). The N2 takes you up over Sir Lowery’s Pass; the N1 tunnels under the mountains. This is the view approaching the tunnel from the northeast.

Wildsprouts

Our favorite lunch stop – Wildsprouts. John has chosen an outside table. Menu is large and food delicious. It was a full year before I realized it is a vegetarian restaurant !
